Statement of Support for Galt Blockade from District Chief of Gespegawagi Traditional Tribal Government

I am Gary Metallic Sr., District Chief of our 7th District Gespegawagi traditional Tribal government. We want to personally thank the defenders who have set up a blockade to stop Junex from drilling for oil on our District lands who are in Gaspe right now. We will support any defenders in the protecting of our lands, and resources from being poisoned by these corporate raiders. All we ask is that it will be a peaceful struggle, similar to the recent North Dakota protest where any form of violence was not to be used. We welcome all races to join us in this struggle to protect Mother Earth and her resources. The most critical resource to be protected for which all life is dependent on is our water, in unity only can we find the strength and tenacity to stop the oil and gas industry in their exploitation and poisoning of our waters and resources.

Preparing the Soil: Grassroots Environmentalism in Gaspesie, Canada (with August 2017 Update)

On August 7, militant ecologists established a hard blockade at the entrance to the Galt Site on Mi’kmaq territory near Gaspé. This is a highly strategic action, timed several weeks before Junex is slated to begin unconventional horizontal drilling, and just after it was announced that their government cronies will be hooking their pals at Junex up with a cool 8.4 million taxpayer dollars. Because of widespread opposition to fracking in so-called Quebec and the Maritimes, and the fact that Junex is a junior company propped up by government hand-outs, we believe that this is a highly winnable fight. ...

Galt blockade (GASPESIE): Call for action!

On stolen Mi’gmaq territory, far from our barricades, we see the river that flows into the majestic Baie de Gaspe. In the distance, we see the forest, that was infinite, being devoured piece by piece by the colonial industries. The greediest of this world have come to extract these oil wells. Starting yesterday, we intervened and helped to reassert Mi’gmaq juridiction on the illegitimate property of Junex. On the road leading to the Galt Wells, we have set up a blockade and a camp as an act of solidarity with the land and water protectors of Turtle Island. ...

Fuck Canada: VIA Rail celebration of colonial genocide covered in the colours of green anarchy

Anonymous submission to MTL Counter-info Politicians, cops, capitalists and bootlickers across the territories of so-called Canada are celebrating the genocidal legacy of colonial civilization with a year full of grotesque spectacles. Canada tries to whitewash 150 years of colonial violence with fighter jets adorned with the colors of the Canadian flag, concerts and parades, and VIA Rail commuter train advertising. We see nothing to celebrate about the genocidal campaign waged against indigenous peoples, ecological devastation, or the establishment of a State which represses our wild desires and steals our capacity to live free. Instead, we celebrate the resistance of indigenous peoples across Turtle Island; from the Gitwilgyoots peoples resisting the construction of a massive LFG (liquified fracked gas) terminal on their territories, to the Mi’kmaq resistance to fracking on their territories. ...

How to: fill fire extinguishers with paint

Fire extinguishers filled with paint have been useful to anarchists in Montreal fighting gentrification, surveillance, and most recently, colonial advertising. 1. Steal the extinguisher Find a water-pressurized fire extinguisher. They are metallic silver and come in two sizes. Both sizes have removable tops, which are often attached with a nut. ...

Canada150 Installation Defaced in Montreal, and a Proposal

On Friday, June 16, an installation in Montreal promoting Canada’s 150th year of killing people and taking their land (among other shit), was defaced by some anarchists. A large “Canada150” billboard above a Parks Canada information booth was covered with black paint, while anti-colonial posters were wheat pasted on an adjacent placard memorializing Sir Wilfred Laurier. The location is alongside the Lachine Canal, and across the street from Atwater Market, both major tourist destinations. The action was timed so that summer weekend crowds wouldn’t miss our redecoration. As of Saturday afternoon, the black paint had not been removed. ...

Let them eat paint! : de-gentrification action against “3734”

Just over a year ago, a masked crowd looted the yuppie grocery store attached to the “3734” restaurant on Notre-Dame street and redistributed the food to people in the neighborhood, one of dozens of actions against gentrification in recent years. The grocery store shut down several months ago, but we noticed that the 3734 restaurant was still serving business lunches and expensive dinners to local yuppies. So last Wednesday night we paid them a visit, breaking a window and covering the inside of the restaurant with paint, using a fire extinguisher. ...

Hey There Yuppies!

On the night of May 19, we decided to come together to attack the restaurant and bar Ludger, the offices of Projet Montréal, and the IGA supermarket in Saint-Henri. If we attacked Ludger, it’s not only to denounce the over-priced meals that they serve, but to attack the way of life of young professional yuppies who invade popular neighbourhoods with their cash, and contribute to the exclusion of the poor in the neighbourhood. ...

You're also staying in “Montreal” this summer?

But where do we go when we stay in the city? In parks? On friend’s balconies? What to do when we don’t want to resign ourselves to metro-work-sleep or the leisure of city festivals or the 375th anniversary celebrating the colonization of the island? Or to the summer that passes dully while drinking beers in parks? What to do with summer’s potential and the sudden opening of spaces under the sun and warm nights? Hibernation is over. I want for life to be a journey even if I stay here. I want to do unauthorized camping, not just in the woods or on the road to Gaspésie. I want a presence that carves out a place in diverse spaces so as to nourish friendships, creative relations of mutual aid and our rebellions. Being together with the city as a terrain to occupy (all the while occupying ourselves with not allowing the city to celebrate its colonial occupation too much), to disturb the limits imposed by the fencing, the bans on loitering and the well-tended grass. To occupy and care for buildings, alleys, and wastelands, without asking permission. ...

A recipe for nocturnal direct actions!

[ For reading ] [ For printing, 11”x17” ] “Direct action, simply put, means cutting out the middleman: solving problems yourself rather than petitioning the authorities or relying on external institutions. Any action that sidesteps regulations and representation to accomplish goals directly is direct action—it includes everything from blockading airports to helping refugees escape to safety and organizing programs to liberate your community from reliance on capitalism .” ...

May Day in Montreal: Some Critical Reflections

Despite a sizable turnout on a rainy day, May Day in Montreal left many feeling like the police succeeded in keeping our celebrations tame and orderly. The anti-capitalist demonstration started in two locations: a downtown contingent organized by CLAC (Convergence of Anti-Capitalist Struggles), and an anti-fascist, anti-borders contingent which would join the downtown one from the east. This was organized in part to avoid demonstrating alongside the PCR, authoritarian communists that CLAC persists in organizing with. ...
