High-Capacity Rail Line Sabotaged

A few nights ago, an anarchist settler sabotaged CN’s main transcontinental rail line. If TC Energy wanted to transport anything from southern Ontario or further east to CGL sites in BC, it’s likely that this they’d use this line. I was careful to choose a secluded site since it would take longer to work alone. I used the copper wire method described here. To ensure a good connection, I used steel wool and vinegar to remove rust from the tracks. I think the disruption was successful because wire sparked when I connected the tracks. I left quickly – you should still get out as soon as you can, even if you don’t feel stressed or rushed – and went home. This action was easy to do, even for a completely inexperienced person. ...

Hamilton: Simultaneous Rail Sabotage at Bottlenecks in Solidarity with Wet’suwet’en Land Defenders

A decade ago in a move that has inspired many, Wet’suwet’en people reoccupied their unceded territories as a way to begun healing and ensuring the land is protected in the ways she needs to sustain Wet’suwet’en people’s lives, practices, and continued existence in their traditional territories. A year ago the RCMP violently invaded those territories to provide access for industry. One week ago, the canadian state criminalized Anuk’ nu’at’en – Wet’suwet’en hereditary law – by granting an injunction which criminalizes Indigenous people and their allies should they protect the Yintah from the destructive forces of industry. ...

Trouble #9: Learning to Resist – Trailer

On this 50th anniversary of the global uprisings of 1968, subMedia pays homage to the insurgent youth who helped kick things off a half-century ago by taking a look at some contemporary student-led movements that are still tearing things up around the world. In this month’s episode of Trouble, the first of a two-part series on radical student movements, sub.Media talks to a number of current and former student organizers from so-called Puerto Rico, Quebec and Chile as they share their experiences from the high-points of past struggles and provide hard-fought lessons that can help prepare a new generation for the battles to come.

Montreal Against Junex: When All Else Fails, Block The Rails

On Sunday September 10, we mobilized in solidarity with the ongoing resistance against the extractive oil industry in Gaspésie, in particular, Junex and its investors. Corporations like Junex (and their investors) collude with provincial and federal governments. These collaborations exemplify how neoliberal capitalism (as the current economic and political context) functions to sustain the settler-colonial state of Canada. Recently announced legislation allowing for drilling and fracking in rivers and lakes within so-called Quebec demonstrates such complicity to the point of absurdity - the state no longer seems to even care about making it appear that its role is neutral in paving the way for the poisoning of water and land for capitalist profit. ...

Fuck Canada: VIA Rail celebration of colonial genocide covered in the colours of green anarchy

Anonymous submission to MTL Counter-info Politicians, cops, capitalists and bootlickers across the territories of so-called Canada are celebrating the genocidal legacy of colonial civilization with a year full of grotesque spectacles. Canada tries to whitewash 150 years of colonial violence with fighter jets adorned with the colors of the Canadian flag, concerts and parades, and VIA Rail commuter train advertising. We see nothing to celebrate about the genocidal campaign waged against indigenous peoples, ecological devastation, or the establishment of a State which represses our wild desires and steals our capacity to live free. Instead, we celebrate the resistance of indigenous peoples across Turtle Island; from the Gitwilgyoots peoples resisting the construction of a massive LFG (liquified fracked gas) terminal on their territories, to the Mi’kmaq resistance to fracking on their territories. ...

Solidarity with #NODAPL: How to block trains

Trains are one of the main ways that oil is transported across Turtle Island. Physical blockades of the tracks have been used effectively many times to hamper ecocidal projects of “resource extraction”. We can also block the rails in a sneaky way: by tricking the signalling system into thinking there is a train on the tracks. This trick will force train traffic to come to a halt until the signal blockage is cleared. It can be done in under a minute, and repeated many times to have a significant impact on train circulation. It can take hours to find and remove this blockage, stopping all train traffic in the meantime. ...

Blockade of railroad tracks in Pointe-Saint-Charles

As a gesture of solidarity with the First Nations of Standing Rock, a group of 15 non-native militants blocked the railroad tracks in Pointe-Saint-Charles around 4 PM on November 15. The action lasted for around twenty minutes, during the busiest time of train circulation in Montreal. Police threatened to intervene from the moment when a train of commodities was forced to stop. ...
