From Ferguson to Oakland

From Ferguson to Oakland: 17 days of riots and revolt in the Bay Area From Crimethinc A wild and growing anti-police revolt is in full swing across the Bay Area. It is a node in the growing national movement sparked by the insurrection in Ferguson following the police execution of Michael Brown, and at the same time it is a continuation of local struggles dating back at least to the 2009 Oscar Grant riots in Oakland. Some of us who have participated in events in the Bay over the past two and half weeks urgently desire to communicate to others around the world about what is unfolding here. Our aim is not to claim bragging rights or to establish Oakland as the riot capital of the United States. On the contrary, it is necessary to spread word of the unprecedented nature of these events precisely because it suddenly seems more possible than ever before that revolt against white supremacy and the police could spread beyond the usual spaces of protest. ...

Cars, Guns, Autonomy: A Discussion on Anti-Police Struggles in the Bay Area and Ferguson

The following is a transcript of a conversation between two friends shortly after the insurgency in Ferguson, Missouri. Bart was there and Nicola wasn’t, but both of them have participated in anti-police uprisings in the last several years on the West Coast and in the Midwest. We’re publishing this in an effort to explore the complexities of recent events in the United States, but also to contribute to the ongoing discussions and attacks against the existing order, everywhere. ...

Rail Lines Blocked in Solidarity with Indigenous Communities in Conflict with the State

On the morning of April 8th, 8 train lines running through Montreal were blocked by disrupting the rail signals. This action was done in response to ongoing efforts of colonization and repression by the state against indigenous communities across Turtle Island. Colonization and its enforcers are responsible for the missing and murdered indigenous women who have lost their lives as a result of this racist, imperialist society. This action was done in solidarity with recent and ongoing efforts of different communities to honor the lives of these women and to disable the capacity of their assassins. ...

Cop car set on fire after March 15 demo

In the spirit of March 15′s past, a cop car was set on fire on the evening of March 15th, at the Poste 33 police station in Parc-Ex, Montreal. This action was taken to complement the 17th annual demonstration against police (and their brutality) that took place earlier that day. We also send a message of support to Marco Camenisch in his struggles from inside prison in Switzerland.

The state's laws & the cop's clubs won't stop the revolt

11"x17" 12"x18" SOLIDARITY WITH THOSE FACING REPRESSION FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE STRUGGLE! Since the strike began, the state has tried through its courts and the clubs of its cops to stifle the wave of revolt that has swept across Québec and found solidarity internationally. What started as a student strike has transformed into a massive social movement that the state is trying to crush with its “special law”. This law reveals the true nature of Democracy in a time of crisis where we have effectively confronted the state in a struggle to better our lives in conflict with the interests of capital. ...

Hundreds of posters put up inside Montreal metro in response to police killing of Farshad Mahammadi

On Friday, January 6, 2012 the Montreal police killed Farshad Mohammadi – a homeless man and Kurdish political refugee – in the metro. This killing is horrific, but not surprising. The police as an institution exist to maintain power and enforce a social peace necessary to keep capitalism in motion. To this end, they consistently suppress those who don’t, can’t, or choose not to fit into this system. ...
